Dennis McNally does an incredible job of capturing the life and times of Jack Kerouac in a book, CD and DVD titled “One Fast Move Or I’m Gone.”

Success ate him alive.  He had been a spiritual wanderer, and now he was famous.  He’d become a great writer because of an innocent eye and naïve fascination with life, and now he was inundated by people who wanted something from him - women who wanted to fuck him, men who wanted to argue with or fight him - dozens of people who thought they knew who he was because they’d read a book which they might or might not have understood at all.  “…driven mad for three years by endless telegrams, phone calls, requests, mail, visitors, reporters, snoopers…”, he wrote.  So he drank.  He’d been drinking since his teens and dabbled with various drugs - amphetamines, pot, psychedelics - later, but now he had the money to settle into a serious Johnny Walker habit.
